Here is a picture report on the melons, squash, eggplants and peppers. All are doing well so far; no bugs and minor wind damage. There are more than a few vines I will have to train “up” and I’ll do this after dinner tonight . . . on the other hand, the melon leaves are keeping the peppers and eggplants a little cooler.
I still have to put up my ‘bean cloth’ above the sunken barrels so they can climb. I’ve been busy spreading more rock and building a new bed. The wood frame and Styrofoam beds on the left will be removed this week and the soil put into the new bed that match my other beds . . . I worked on the new bed this morning for a while . . . then it got hot and my computer was calling me . . . “Les-leeeee, come inside where it’s nice and cool.” Canna ‘Cleopatra’ is in a pot planted with Moonflowers and White Sweet Alyssum, it should be nice and fragrant when it grows.
The peppers are running center to right, and tomatoes border this bed with an assortment of slow-to-take-off flowers here and there. Canna ‘China Doll’ is in the upper left of the picture. I still have some nice plants to fill in the empty spaces as a living mulch, to protect the soil from our desert sun . . . I just need to get to it.
