Test Garden Update: Debbie Leung, Olympia, WA

DebbieLeungStarving after a hot afternoon of working in the garden, my niece, her friend and I relaxed on the deck in the cool evening. We savored the soft ‘Cavili’ zucchini pieces that had soaked up the flavor of a mild black bean sauce spiked with finely diced ‘Gusto Purple’ hot peppers. Then there was the sweetness of the ‘All Seasons’ broccoli florets, crunch of  ‘Magnolia Blossom’ sugar snap peas and tofu, all over rice. ‘Sweetie Baby’ romaine and arugula made up the salad. It wasn’t until we were about half way through our meal that we thought of anything other than the flavors and the setting, and I realized we were eating a test garden dinner. ‘All Seasons’ broccoli was a test variety from a previous year, but everything else (except the arugula, tofu and rice) were a flavorful testament to this year’s test varieties. Sorry, no photo. By the time I thought of it, we had eaten all but a few sad spoonfuls.
